All Stitched Up

Sunday night, Jordan and I were standing in the kitchen when Clara suddenly started crying. It was very scary to turn around and see a knife laying next to her on the floor. The knife had been sitting on a towel on the kitchen counter a moment earlier. Clara apparently pulled on the towel and down came the knife, leaving a small gash on her forehead. It didn't bleed much and she stopped crying within a minute or two, but the cut was deep enough that we thought it might need stitches, so we headed off to the hospital.

When we arrived at the ER, we were told it might take 2-3 hours before she was seen. Unfortunately for us, it took 5 very, very long hours before Clara saw the doctor. Entertaining a toddler at the hospital from 6 to 11 pm is no easy feat, especially when bedtime is normally at 8. Clara didn't seem to mind. She spent the 5 hours talking nonstop, eating pizza, making friends, and literally running the two of us ragged around the hospital.

When the doctor finally arrived, he gave Clara three shots to numb her head. She let out a little yelp, but didn't cry. Then she laid almost perfectly still while he gave her three stitches. We were amazed! The doctors and nurses were also very impressed.

Clara was such a big fan of her pink and white hospital gown that she refused to go home without it. It has whales, elephants, and dinosaurs on it and says "sooooooooooo big!"

Thank goodness our room had a television with Nick Jr. Too bad we were there for an hour before we discovered it.
