We went to church with Nani and Fa, and then to their house for brunch afterwards. The girls did an Easter egg hunt and we took a few family photos.
Then we relaxed with my whole family as the girls played with their cousins. We watched and then talked about the horrific compound fracture from the player in the Louisville game. And then, shortly after that, we had the opportunity to watch a different bone break right before our eyes as Evie took a spill off of my parents' recliner, put out her hand to catch herself, and hyperextended her arm. OUCH. I might be going to school to become a nurse, but rather than offering help in this situation, I covered my eyes and asked, "is it okay to look? Is it broken?" Clearly I'm not going to be a trauma nurse.
She was in obvious pain and couldn't extend her arm at the elbow at all. At one point I said, "this isn't Evie, something's wrong, she doesn't act like this." And she pointed to herself and said, "no, dis is Evie. I'm Evie Kate Hoppmann." (We're still working on the pronunciation of the letter "f"). Clara went to Aunt Summer and Uncle Kyle's house for the night so Jordan and I could take Evie to urgent care alone. Evie was such a trooper. With the exception of the first few minutes after she initially broke her arm, the only time she whimpered or cried at all was when they had to manipulate her arm for xrays. Since it was Easter, I happened to have our camera in the car and we snapped lots of pictures.
Though we were the only people in urgent care, there was still a lot of waiting. We rocked and sang many, many songs together while we waited.
We always ask Evie, "how much do I love you?" and she puts both arms out as wide as possible. With her poor little broken arm, this is all she could muster.
Evie missed a nap that day and was so, so tired.
Finally, almost done!
She broke the bottom of her humerus, you can see how it's tilted back a bit in this xray.
The doctor put Evie in a temporary cast and snoopy sling, with instructions to ice her arm and let the swelling go down for a few days before coming back for a permanent cast. By the time we got home, she was all smiles again. She's been in a cast for three weeks now, with less than a week to go! Friday we go back to take the cast off and do more xrays to make sure she's all healed. It's hard to believe it's already been long enough, but the truth is that her broken arm has hardly held her back. She's figured out how to do everything she could before, albeit with a little less ease.

I'd like to revisit this post to point out how great of a picture that is of you and Jordan. That is all.
