Sibling Rivalry

We've dealt with a whole lot of sibling rivalry at our house this year. It was probably an omen when Clara burst into tears the first time she saw Evie at the hospital. Things have gotten much better but the early months were rough. And every now and then Clara reveals her true feelings.

A few weeks ago Clara and I spent the afternoon together. That morning, we had a conversation that went like this . . .
Me: It's special Mommy and Clara day. We're going out to lunch and shopping, and Evie is staying home with Daddy.
Clara: You mean, it's special "not-Evie" day?

Or the other night at bedtime . . .
Clara: You're my favorite Mommy.
Me: Thank you, Clara! You're one of my favorite girls.
Clara: You mean Evie is your other favorite girl?
Me: Yes, I have two favorite girls.
Clara: That's not a favorite. You have to pick one. Who's your favorite?

Then yesterday I heard Clara chasing Evie around the house shouting, ""Evie, if you do that one more time, I'm going to sit on your head. You need to obey. I will say it one more time . . . I will sit on your head!"

I'm not making this stuff up. But the sibling rivalry means we especially appreciate the sweet moments we get like these ones:

I don't know why these are on a delay in my google reader, but this is cracking me up. At least she gives Evie fair warning before she sits on her head? I wish Evie could weigh in. : )

This is too funny. I'm sure it was the same way between my sister and I when we were very young. I just remember my mom buying everything in two and having to mark an "S" or "L" on it to avoid arguments later.

Hilarious - sean and I had days of the week that we could sit in the front seat b/c we argued so much. I can't wait till Evie can talk back:)
